The Day Of All Heras falls on 6th. Rosea, corresponding to 21st. December. A hera is someone who has attained spiritual perfection and freed herself from the wheel of birth and death. They are concerned with helping others to follow them and may take human form. On this day we honour them and resolve to follow them. This is the start of a short season devoted to contemplation, ending in Rosa Mundi, on the first new or full moon after the day of all Heras, this year on 7th. Rosea, corresponding to 22nd. January for those on the Greenwich meridian. The full moon occurs at 2 22 am. For your own area allow four minutes for every degree of longitude, remembering that the Madrian day begins at dawn. During this period a single rose stands before the image of Our Lady.
The festival of Rosa Mundi is the Mother's festival, and the time that we meditate most deeply on our relationship with Her. The symbols of this festival are the lark, which rises directly upwards, and the rose. The rose is a symbol of contemplative love. The unfolding of the petals is the unfolding of the Spirit within the heart and the Centre of all things. It is the custom on the Rosa Mundi rite to hold a rose and meditate on the inner meaning of this flower. The altar is decked with roses and candles.
May She be with you,
David.
