Dear friends,
Advent occurs on the first new or full moon after 1st. Astraea, which, this year, on the Greenwich meridian, occurs on 4th. Astraea, corresponding to 5th. June, at 7:12 pm. To find the correct date for your own place, allow for four minutes for each degree of longitude. Remember that the day begins at dawn by Madrian reckoning. The purpose of Advent is to prepare ourselves for the coming of the Divine Child. We prepare ourselves inwardly with acts of devotion, unselfishness, and self-denial; and our homes with decorations of greenery, candles, images of moons and stars, and the Nativity fir. The greenery represents life among the winter barrenness, the candles the Light Eternal, and the Nativity fir the World Tree. The fir is surmounted by a depiction of a star or a fairy doll representing the Star Fairy who is princess of the air-sylphs and rules the Advent period and the Nativity celebrations.
May She be with you,
David.
