Dear friends,
The brief appearance of Lux Madriana produced a spectacular change in the thinking of those influenced by it and their disappearance has left a gap in their lives. I believe this disappearance to be due to a widespread campaign of occult harassment aimed at suppressing the return of Matriarchal religion.
This may seem a cranky observation but it can be verified by anyone adept at scrying. I have already gained publicity for this in the March 2000 issue of Quest due to the kindness of Marian Green but since my claims are of an incredible nature I need independent verification. It is my intention to fill the gap left by the disappearance of Lux Madriana by publishing as much as possible of their philosophy.
The First Cause of existence must contain all existence which must, therefore, unfold from it. What contains every thing and action must, therefore, contain all time and space and therefore cannot be contained within time and space. Every living thing comes from a mother so the source of all life must therefore be the Mother of All.
To contain all things in time and space requires a state of perfect consciousness conceiving all things in perfect harmony. This requires a state of perfect equilibrium in which every possible action is perceived all in the same moment.
The creation of true existence is an unfolding into a state of harmony and each thing comes into existence in a way that is governed by this harmony. Since all things were conceived in a state of pure consciousness they came into existence as a reflection of an Idea in the Mind of the Mother. The true nature of a thing is its Idea and we are closest to true existence when we are closest to Idea. Each Idea becomes a created thing by means of a word spoken by the Mother. Zen is a reverse of the truth. They claim that people make the error of believing that a word is the same as a thing and we have to overcome this to attain Perfection. In fact people make the error of believing that the word is separate from the thing. It is, in fact, part of the creation of the thing. If you could speak the word "chair" perfectly you would create a chair that you could sit on.
In order to maintain the harmony of all created beings they must reflect the harmony of the Mind of the Mother. This is reflected by the Daughter Who maintains all things in perfect Form so as to reflect the perfect Essence of the Mother.
To lose this Essence is to lose the source of existence and all harmony. What ceases to be in harmony with the Mother ceases to exist. The means to prevent this manifestation has been created by the Daughter to enable all things to exist in relative harmony. That which turns from the Spirit draws others with it so that it tends to create an inverse centre. This means that the manifest world tends to be an inversion of the spiritual world in which things tend to be the opposite of their true nature. The descent of the Daughter is with perfect action so that all things can return to their true nature.
The descent, being in perfect equilibrium, is without extension into time and space. Although it takes place in matter it is a perfect reflection of the Spirit, creating the World Pillar at the centre of the manifest world containing the quintessence or Ether which is the fifth element containing the other four.
The closest we get to quintessence is intelligence which governs every possible action. You cannot reach the Spirit without the intellect because you cannot reach the centre without going towards the middle. The practise of spontaneity, if it could ever be made to work, would only fragment the mind further away from harmony.
The material world unfolds from the quintessence into the four elements and air is the element that governs the harmony of this unfolding. It is not the element of the intellect but the rhythmic arts and correct movement. You cannot create sexual symbolism out of the four elements because they do not interact directly with each other but only through the quintessence. Every action begins in the quintessence which contains the idea that governs the action. The purpose of all action is to create a form that reflects the idea. To do this perfectly we must remember that every human idea is a reflection of a Divine Idea. Try, in every action, to be aware of the governing Idea. It manifests most perfectly in a point half way between the eyes and the back of the head. Be aware also of the Idea governing each thing and always offer the Essence of the act to the Mother and the Form to the Daughter. You may think this is too difficult to be practical but with a little practice you will be surprised to find it much more difficult than you even expected. However, it is the path to Absolute Perfection and when you get the hang of it you will find it is nice being a saint. The ultimate object is to attain to pure consciousness.
There seem to be a lot of magicians who believe that Freud and Jung were great spiritual teachers. While their theories have a superficial resemblance to spiritual philosophy they saw the unconscious as the source of symbolism. Jung actually said that because Christianity was deficient in symbolism it was therefore a religion solely of the conscious mind. The unconscious mind is the equivalent on the mental level to Hell on the material level. It is the point furthest from the Spirit where Idea is in its most degenerate form. Studies have found that psychoanalysis is of no help in curing insanity. Psychoanalysts insist that the five year period of the studies was too short but I would expect that in five years there would be a noticeable difference.
The influence of psychoanalysis on art has been to create the belief that creativity exists in the unconscious and has to bypass the conscious. It has caused artists to, at best, lose their sense of beauty and, at worst, to be a source of crudity, aggression and childishness. Salvador Dali at one time tried to induce hallucinations to make his unconscious manifest. This sort of behaviour is not spiritual, it brings about a fragmentation of the psyche.
Meditation is intellectual. The thoughts in our minds are fragmentations of true Ideas and logic is a manifestation of the inter-relationship of the Ideas which also manifest as the laws of nature. The purpose of meditation is to relate the fragmentations to true reality. Visualization may be a useful exercise for magicians but it does not achieve this.
Polytheistic religion has two origins. One is that the Goddess has different names for different aspects of Her being which have been mistaken for different deities. The other is that part of Creation never fell from Perfection and that there are beings still in perfect harmony with Her, correctly called Geniae. It is technically important to distinguish the two for the Goddess alone has the honour of capitals for pronouns relating to Her but in practice to confuse the two is not harmful because the Geniae are in perfect harmony with Her so that to worship one is, in effect, to worship an aspect of Her.
Madrian publications did not clearly explain the origin of masculinity which means I have to resort to my own speculations. The following is not Madrian teaching: It is clear that the Primal Principle must be the creative power of the Feminine. First Creation must then be parthenogenic and the male a secondary principle. The child is created within the mother so the male can only be a stimulation to creation. If the first Creation was parthenogenic creation by sexual union must be a less pure form and masculinity must be the result of a fragmentation of the psyche.
There are no male deities in Madrian teachings. The highest level of any thing is as an Idea in the Mind of the Mother and the object of spiritual development is to return to that state. All emotion is a sense of separation from Idea. Archaeologists have found there was a time when only female images were worshipped and male images first made their appearance as a child. The rods that are supposed to be phallic symbols are sometimes held vertically by the image of the Goddess (see 'The Myth of the Goddess' by Anne Baring and Jules Cashford), so they cannot represent a male deity. A rod is a moving point which represents the Divine centre beyond time and space. A vertical rod is the World Pillar (which manifests as the backbone) and a horizontal rod can either be a horizontal reflection of the World Pillar or a ray of the Spirit from which all things come. An arrow is a rod capable of projection. Possibly the reason why the Greeks saw love as a male child archer is because the male is always seeking the Mother.
In Latin and Greek the gender of any name can be changed by changing the
case ending so it is easy for a Goddess to be changed to a God. The true martial deity is Nike, which is a feminine name from the verb 'nikein' meaning to overcome. This fact, and the martial qualities of Athene in a culture so chauvinistic that women were married without their consent proves that their religion was originally matriarchal.
Every name represents a concept. You are free, by changing the case ending, to give that name a masculine or a feminine form. Herakles actually means 'Glory of Hera', which is the feminine form of the noun 'heros' meaning hero. It is similar to the name of the love God Eros, so Herakles was possibly never a warrior in the first place. It is as well to acquire enough linguistic knowledge to use a dictionary because the myths are unreliable.
It is not necessary for a man to invoke his "female side" in order to worship a female deity because the object is not to become the Mother but to achieve perfect harmony with Her.
The proof that heroes, as well as male deities, may originally have been female is the myth of Kainis. According to the version that has come down to us she was metamorphosed into man to become a warrior, then back into a woman at the point of death so that a woman's body was found in the armour. There are also the seven effeminate youths in women's clothes that Theseus used to overpower the Cretan guards and other stories of warriors dressing as women. The Greeks had an extensive range of Amazon tales and the story of the nymph Kyrene who wrestled lions. Against this perspective there is nothing implausible in even Herakles having been a woman.
At first sight it may seem that men are inferior in a Madrian society but this sort of thinking is based on a power orientated ethos. Men have a deep desire to move towards the female. Behaviourist psychologists have proved that if a man or a woman is surprised by the sight of a male and a female pin-up at the same time they both look at the female first. Girly magazines are a manifestation of this and nobody considers them demeaning to men. Why, then, is it demeaning for a temple image to be female?
In a Madrian society authority is a ritual function which cannot be taken personally. As soon as it is the ritual potency is lost and all respect with it. Patriarchy is really the result of the failure of women to act with purity of will and courage largely because they lack confidence to believe they can be loved if they are stronger than men. One of the reasons for this is because we believe strength can only be by aggression but this is a Patriarchal concept based on the belief that since action is masculine and grace feminine these qualities are irreconcilable opposites.
There is a deep fascination in many men for strength in women. Photostats of female bodybuilders fetch high prices.
All joy comes from the joy of Creation. Act from the truth - and your true self - and you will attain the greatest happiness.
May She be with you
David.
