Concentrating on psychic centres is quite a common method, and usually consists in concentrating on one centre. You can do more than this. You can combine techniques.
Start with the centre of perception. I have read that this is between the eyebrows, but I have found that it is actually between the eyes. The difference is important, because you need to be exactly on the centre. At the same time, you visualise a mystical symbol at this point.
You support your perception centre by concentrating on another centre at the same time. I use the solar plexus, because it is the solar centre, which is the source of the light, and works well with the centre of perception - but don't take my word for this, because I've not yet tried the other centres. I'm not certain that you won't find better results with other centres.
Dear friends,
This gives us an opportunity to test a principle which is held to be a sign of the spiritual superiority of those who advocate it. Buddhism teaches that spiritual development requires the overcoming of conceptualisation, and Nirvana is beyond all conceptualisation. The Corpus Hermetica states that the Father is beyond all conceptualisation. Some NeoPlatonist writers say that God is ineffable. Judaism and Islam say that all images are wrong. If all this is based on sound principle, then, if you concentrate on the centre of perception, it will give better results if you do not use an image than if you do. This is logical - Oh! But I forgot! Spiritual development requires the overcoming of logic! That means that if you get better results using the image, it proves that not using the image is the better way!
It would be best if you could concentrate on all the centres at once. You may think this is impossibly complicated, but there is a way, and it's simple.
If you have a statue representing a Divine Image, and concentrate on one point on that statue, the spiritual energy is reflected onto your own body at the same point. If you concentrate on the whole of the statue, all your psychic centres are involved. The statues Christians use for the Virgin Mary are quite suitable as representations of the Goddess.
At the same time as this, you can use mantras. The mantra I use is a purification one, to overcome the false in myself:
The Mother separates the water from the sky.
The point of knowing at the centre of existence separates the ascending from the descending.
The descending first waters draw all decaying matter downwards.
The Mother descends as the Thunderbolt into the Earth, drawing the descending first waters to Her.
The descending first waters draw all the evil in them to the Thunderbolt at the centre of the Earth,
To descend with the Thunderbolt into the Earth.
This is how far I have developed my technique so far, but, if you have the ingenuity to suggest an improvement, we will all benefit from it. In particular, I am hoping someone will be creative enough to compose a better mantra than mine.
May She be with you,
David.
