Dear friends
Buddhists may protest that it is an exaggeration to argue that Buddhists teachings are part of the illusions of the world, because the Buddha taught the truth. Well, that sounds logical. What's true can't be an illusion, but, you see, Buddhism allows for no exception to the principle that everything in the world is an illusion. They insist that everything we perceive is perceived with our deluded minds, and there is no truth beyond the illusion.
When a Buddhist looks at the sun, he believes he is looking at an illusion, not because he is seeing the sun in a false way, but because there is no sun, and the concept of the sun is an illusion, a figment of the deluded mind. If you look for a spiritual principle beyond the sun, they reply that the spiritual principle is also an illusion.
They may reply that they do have a belief in a reality, and that is Nirvana, but they do not see the sun as an aspect of Nirvana. They do not see anything in the world as an aspect of Nirvana.
Some people may point out that there is a Buddhist principle that you end up seeing trees and mountains as trees and mountains again, but this is a minor form of Buddhism, and presents a problem. They do not say that there is a higher reality beyond the trees and mountains, but that the trees and mountains are real things in themselves, that is, they are materialists.
This means that if I say I know what Buddhism is because I have read it in a book, they have to answer, if they want to be consistent, that the book is an illusion and everything in it is an illusion. Even if the Buddha were to appear before me and explain the teachings himself, I would have to hear his words with a hearing which is part of my deluded mind, and understand them with my deluded mind. They may argue that you can tell his teachings are the truth because of their profundity, but, if this is possible, it proves I am not deluded, which wipes out Buddhism.
How did the Buddha attain his enlightenment? It must have come from achieving the understanding of it, and be the result of that understanding, which means he must have gained the understanding of enlightenment before he gained it, and therefore with an unenlightened mind.
Now, when a Madrian looks at the sun, she believes she is looking at an illusion, but there is a difference, one which enables her to believe that the sun exists, and she knows it exists because she can see it, and she can read a book and know that the words she is reading are the words the author wrote.
The reason why she believes she is looking at an illusion when she looks at the sun is because, when she looks at the sun, she sees a yellow disc when what is there is a charioteer in a chariot drawn by seven horses. You may think this is crazier than Buddhism, the sun doesn't look like a charioteer in a chariot drawn by seven horses, but let me explain.
All the phenomena of the material world are an unfolding of true reality. They exist in a point beyond dimension which contains all space, and in a moment that contains all time. In that point and moment is the Mother Who is pure consciousness and conceives of every possible idea. In that state, we were created as Divine Ideas, but have fallen from it. The material world is created by the Divine Ideas being impressed into matter, which is the formless substance underlying all existence. It takes up a form to support the Ideas, which are separated in time and space because we have fallen into a state of lethargy by falling from our true wills. It was created out of the compassion of the Mother so that we could have some form of existence while separated from Her. We cannot exist in Her presence because we are living at a lower level of energy. If we tried to approach Her, we would be dazzled witless. If we see the sun as it really is, we will be killed. Scientists tell us that if we go towards the material sun, we will burn up long before we reach it, but the energy of the material sun is a tiny fraction of the energy of the real sun.
You can see now why it is wise to be sceptical of any person, either living or historical, who is reputed to be enlightened. They are claiming a lot. You can also see that perfect existence is a difficult thing to get the hang of. Scientists tell us that the Universe has been in existence for millions of years, and now you know why. It is a long way back. You can also see why it is wise to be sceptical of any quick or easy way to perfection. like letting go or giving up rationality. People who think they are enlightened do not realise that there is a vast range of varying degrees of spiritual vision between us and perfection.
What makes the return to perfection possible is that the Mother, out of Her compassion, has created many levels of material existence which reflect true reality with varying degrees of purity. As we progress, we reincarnate on progressively higher levels, and attain perfection on the highest levels.
It is against this cosmogony that we understand the true nature of the sun. It is an outflow of the creative energy of the Mother, and the horses are the Ideas of this energy, and the charioteer of the controlling intellect. The chariot is the primary substance of the world actualised to support it. All we can see of it at our level of existence is the radiance of this energy radiating in all directions to create a disc, but, by knowing the true nature of the sun, we can use our awareness of it to sensitise ourselves to it and be gradually drawn back to it. The disc we see, though it is an illusion, is an expression of the true sun and has a logical relation to it.
People may think I'm being bigotted in my attacks on Buddhism, but you must realise that this method requires the application of principles which the Buddhists teach are false. It means meditating on a state of absolute existence when the Buddhists say that no concept can be attached to Nirvana. It means meditating on the true nature of all the things in the world when the Buddhists teach that they have no true nature. It also means that the idea of a thing is a reality. When you think of the sun as a charioteer, you must be aware that the idea of the charioteer is the reality from which the charioteer takes her reality.
What I have tried to explain in this message, and in previous messages, is that true reality is in us, deep inside our minds, and knowable to the rational intellect. Absolute existence is the state from which we were originally created. That is why we want to go back to it, so there must be a concept to it. If this is not true, then spiritual development will be impossible by any means whatsoever, because there will be no means by which any state of the spirit can affect our consciousness. If no concept can be attached to Nirvana, then we cannot meditate on Nirvana.
If spiritual teaching can have any effect, it must be capable of being understood by people who have no spiritual awareness, otherwise, they will not be able to attain spiritual awareness, but, if you think about the implications of Buddhist teachings, you must realise they can only be understood by somebody who has already attained enlightenment. They also deny the existence of any personal God, which denies all religion. Spiritual awareness cannot be attained by persuading ourselves that our faculties do not exist, because that does not relate to any spiritual principle. It is not enough to gain detachment from the world. It is necessary to have something that draws us to the spirit, and that cannot be a state to which no concept can be attached.
The purpose of religion is to give us the necessary symbolism for this, but we have continued to decline to lower levels of energy. This means that the level of spiritual stimulus has to be reduced, because too much makes us too excitable, which makes us unable to control the fascination of violence and sex. This means that religon can only be partly true in order to reduce this energy. We are guided by Providence, and whatever happens is the best possible thing that can happen in that situation. An oppressive religious atmosphere creates courage and integrity, and makes the realisation of the truth a greater attainment. This toning down includes the nudity taboo. The female form is a reflection of the Divine Image, and contemplating it is a spiritual influence, but the energy of it became too great for us to control. The spiritual level we exist at is governed by cycles which rise and descend, and are of varying lengths. We have been declining for a long time, but we are now ascending, which is why the nudity taboo is being relaxed.
The main problem now with spiritual development is that deep within us there is an aversion to spiritual influence caused by our original separation. There is black evil at the core of our being, ready to bust out in crazy hate. It is this which is the cause of antifeminism, and also of anti-intellectualism, because the intelect reflects the primordial point of the Mother which knows all things. We have no choice but to recognise our faults and prejudices.
May She be with you,
David.
